What can I expect at my first appointment?
The first appointment generally takes around 70-90 minutes. This is an opportunity for us to meet, to talk about your current issues and difficulties and to formulate a general plan that will steer our focus over the next few sessions. The number of sessions is determined by you and your current situation.
Is there anything else that occurs during our first session?
There is a consent process, I will collect some general information (contact details and health demographics) and complete a rating scale.
Can I bring a support person?
Yes, it is important you feel comfortable and supported.
Is there anything I need to consider before attending the session?
It is helpful to consider what brings you to counselling, what you might like to work on. This may be of a general focus (to have an opportunity to talk about situation) or it may be more specific (i.e. dealing with negative type thoughts, anxiety management approaches etc.).
